‘Liberty, Femina, Keluarga’ consists of a series of fourty- six small format water color paintings by Peruvian artist Cecilia Collantes. Cecilia’s work is often inspired by the exploration of concepts and imagery used in media and advertising and how they influence the development of an individual’s image and identity. In ‘Liberty, Femina, Keluarga’, she explores the representation of Indonesian women in the media through an in-depth study of three Indonesian magazine covers selected from issues published in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Each selected magazine cover is reproduced through the artist’s eyes in a series of paintings exploring the link between the titleof the magazine versus the image chosen for the front cover. In Liberty’, Cecilia explores the concept of freedom; in ‘Femina’, femininity and in ‘Keluarga’, family.

Through her carefully chosen subject and presentation, Cecilia asks viewers to question the position of Indonesian women in the past along with its relevance in present day.
